As I was saying, PPU's were like prefects, older girls and boys regarded as responsible enough for much self-regulation and helping staff in various ways such as assisting in looking after younger children, as most of us generally did. PPU's sat out front with Miss Leila and Miss Dave at Meetings held in the first and last weekends of terms.

There were some PPU's before Simon Rodway left the Colt House in July 1963. Initially in the CH under Colin Edwards we just had BP as PPU (he left later in 1964) but before Easter 1964 CB became a PPU (despite heavy smoking, leaving in July 1965).

In the days of Doug Turner's relaxed regime, MA became a PPU in late 1964 and CI became one in Summer 1965. They were both smokers. Before they left in July 1966, one of them was stripped of PPU status for persistent smoking, as mentioned in Chris Howell's memories on the website (but not put back in short trousers which Mr Griffiths is said to have threatened). M later became a policeman in London.

In early September 1965 CP and I were also PPU's. In about early 1967 MR also became a PPU.

CP left in July 1967 although he helped a bit in the West Wing in early September as the housemaster had yet to arrive. I stayed another year although visited a fair bit. Once I was at Uni studying for my law degree, three more boys became PPU's - DW, TE and CE.

As recounted in his website memories, Chris Howell became the last PPU (at least in theory) just before CC uniforms as such were about to be abolished (as runs and showers had already been) with the coming introduction at Hatch of family-type groups (but not in the CH) in 1970. Chris Howell left CC in Summer 1971.

There were girls as PPU's. EN became one before Easter 1964. JC became one in late 1964. There will have been others that some will recall.
