Garry has reminded me of Caldecott's Diamond Jubilee year 1986, when Simon Rodway gave the reunion address. Simon joined the staff, still a teenager, in early summer 1951, an alternative to service in war in Korea. He was on the Caldecott Council for some 40 years including chair of Trustees when the Foundation moved from Hatch to Caldecott House, Smeeth. He still has informal ties and has been chair of Caldecott Association since it was formed.
On Monday this week, his 93rd birthday, Simon was a guest at the Foundation's annual awards event. He was presented with an award for his long involvement with Caldecott, 74 years so far, also a bottle of good wine plus a birthday cake in the shape of a hat with Caldecott Foundation logo in icing on the side. Tony Inwood was guest speaker, mentioning the proposed book to be written by Tony and CEO Nick Barnett on the history of Caldecott.
