I append a photo (from an old Caldecott Association calendar) of the remnant of a disused fountain in part of the grounds of Mersham-le-Hatch. I do not recall seeing the fountain working. Doubtless it originally did but it was not in the most prominent part of the grounds of Hatch, probably only worth making it work for a special event of the Knatchbull family at that location. Maybe it ceased to operate. I have a notion that there had been a black bowl on top of the fountain, but most likely it was before colour photos were common.
This part of the grounds was on the way to and from the Mersham Turning bus stops, via the Rookery and passing near to the Stinky Pond.
